On the outskirts of Colchester and bordering the ancient Welsh Wood this property benefits from a stunning backdrop woodland garden yet was disconnected from it, primarily due to the dilapidated condition of an existing multi-level decking structure and its accompanying disused spa pool, which consumed much of the space.
As part of initial onsite discussions with the owner KT Garden Spaces provided the vision of a re-modelled single level decking platform, creating both a generous entertaining space and elevated viewpoint of this glorious garden beyond with its engaging woodland wildlife. The inspiration extended to the idea of an inset terraced style set of steps down to garden level, eliminating any effect of steepness and accentuating the edges of the steps using Millboard Coppered Oak bullnose boards as a contrast to the warm Golden Oak colour of the main deck area. The Golden Oak Enhanced boards were chosen to complement the internal oak flooring and reflect light inside the property. The positioning and width of the steps were deliberately planned to create an uninterrupted view of the garden from inside. Looking towards the property from the garden there is an illusion that the decking platform appears to float through creative use of wide boarding stained ebony in colour.
Interestingly, as with many of KT Garden Spaces clients, this owner researched a wide spectrum of composite decking products available within the UK and instinctively concluded that Millboard stood out on its own. Likewise, we understand the selection process of installers was extensive, so its pleasing to know that KT Garden Spaces also stands out from the crowd with our knowledge, presentation, professionalism, and approach to the project. As a testament to this KT Garden Spaces was subsequently invited to source and install a glass balustrade and since completion of the initial project has been asked to update an adjoining patio area.
On this project it’s also worth highlighting part of our company ethos, as KT Garden Spaces will always look to recycle waste materials, where possible. In this case, deconstructing the existing deck structure generated a considerable volume of timber, which we employed North Essex Wood Recycling (a Social Enterprise) to collect and re-utilise, thankfully avoiding the inevitable landfill associated with skip hire waste management.
As with all our projects at KT Garden Spaces we embrace the sense of achievement in re-inventing an outdoor space and the fact the client is suitably thrilled with the finished result.
